August 22, 2008Video footage has been posted online from last night's Kerrang! Awards, which was held in London, England. Hosted by ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian, the ceremony saw METALLICA collect the Kerrang! Inspiration gong, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE inducted to the magazine’s Hall Of Fame and Sheffield rockers DEF LEPPARD acknowledging their Classic Songwriter award via a video message, reports MusicWeek.com.
SLIPKNOT was also in attendance to be declared Kerrang! Icon while the biggest winner of the night proved to be 30 SECONDS TO MARS, who received the awards for Best Single for "From Yesterday" and Best International Band.
In collecting the Inspiration award to a raucous standing ovation, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said, "There are so many people in this room that inspire us and keep us alive, so I just want to thank everyone for keeping METALLICA alive."
SLIPKNOT lead singer Corey Taylor dedicated his band's award to the band's drummer Joey Jordison, who was absent due to a broken ankle.
Taylor said: "I'm speechless; I don't know what to say. I wish there was more of us here. I just showed up for the booze."
